Maki :
Let’s go to HIGO Aquarium this weekend.
Lobin:
Sounds good. I want to see these three events. So, let’s take a bus at Amaumi Station leaving at ① to see the first Dolphin Show.
Maki:
OK. Before lunch, we can go to the Feeding of Fish. If we see the first Penguin Parade until the end, we can take a bus leaving at ②. Then we can get to Amaumi Station before 4:00.

Megumi :
Jim, I found this table and graph on the Internet yesterday. They’re about how many days tourists from other countries stayed in Japan and how much money they spent on average in 2018.
Jim :
Can I see them? Oh, the people from ① stayed the longest in Japan.
Megumi:
Yes. In the table, the people from ② also stayed in Japan for about two weeks, but they spent the smallest amount of money per day.
Jim :
That’s right. Look at the graph. The people from ③ spent about half of their money on shopping. I’ve read in the newspaper that they like buying daily necessities in Japan.
Megumi:
It’s good that they enjoy shopping in Japan. Oh, look at the table again. Compared with people from Asian countries like China or South Korea, people from the U.S., the U.K. and Australia stayed longer in Japan. The graph shows the rate of the money they spent on places 〜was over forty percent and higher than the rate of Asian countries.
Jim:
That’s interesting!

Kento:
Roy and I are planning a trip next Sunday. Could you recommend a plan for a trip in our city?
Mr. Smith:
OK. How about going to the City Museum in the morning? You can see many works of art, and learn about various cultures. In the museum, you can get beautiful postcards as gifts and have a traditional meal for lunch at the restaurant. Then, how about going to the City Tower in the afternoon? You can enjoy a wonderful view from the highest place in our city.
Ms. Miller:
I’m a history teacher, so I want you to go to the History Museum and learn a lot about the history of our city. Then, how about visiting the castle by the lake? It’s one of the most popular places in our city. You can enjoy lunch there with a great view, so don’t forget to bring your lunch. At the castle, you can get key rings as gifts.
Mr. Davis:
You should visit two famous parks in our city. First, the Green Park is popular for the river running through the park. You can enjoy fishing there. Next, you can walk to the Forest Park and learn about the ecosystem from the staff in the park. You don’t have to bring your lunch because you can eat lunch at a restaurant in the Forest Park.
Roy:
Thank you very much. We’ll think about your plans.
Kento :
It’s difficult for me to choose one from the three plans because we can learn something from all the plans.
Roy:
That’s right, but I like ① because we can have lunch at a restaurant.
Kento :
I see. I like ② because we can get something as a gift.
Roy:
That’s also nice.
Kento :
Then, let’s choose ③ because we can see the works of art in the morning and a great view in the afternoon.
Roy :
Sure. That’ll be fun.
Kento:
By the way, when and where are we going to meet next Sunday?
Roy :
Well, 〜meet in front of my house at 8:00 in the morning?
Kento :
OK. Then, 〜are you going to bring for the trip?
Roy:
Well, I think fifty dollars will be enough for lunch, gifts, and other things.

You may think my dream is to have my own restaurant because I love ① and I have been learning how to do it for three years. But now I have a different dream. I want to create a lot of Japanese dishes using kombu and introduce them to people around the world. Actually, I did not like kombu when I was a child, but now it is one of my favorite foods. Kombu is amazing, and it may help people around the world in the future.
I went to Hokkaido during the last summer vacation and stayed at my uncle’s house for a week. He works for a company that grows and sells kombu. He told me about the great points of kombu.
Kombu can be a key to solving problems like global warming. We know we have to reduce COz to stop it, but how can we do that? Of course, we can plant more trees, but we need many years to grow them. On the other hand, it takes only a few years to grow kombu, and it absorbs about five times more COz than trees per unit area. So kombu grows faster and absorbs more COz than trees.
Kombu can be helpful for solving food problems. Every part of kombu can be eaten, and dried kombu can be kept for a long time. Now, there are more and more people living in the world. Some people do not have enough food, and they do not get enough nutrition. In such a situation, kombu will be helpful because it has a lot of vitamins and minerals.
So to〜can be helpful for both stopping global warming and giving more nutrition to people around the world. However, my uncle thinks people outside Japan do not eat much kombu. We can change the situation if Japanese dishes using kombu become more popular.
So I want to do something about it. I was interested in having my own restaurant before, but now I am more interested in making Japanese dishes using kombu more popular around the world. First, I want to create many dishes using kombu. Then I want to introduce them to people around the world. I am sure the Internet will be helpful for that. I hope that people will enjoy eating my dishes and grow more kombu all over the world in the future. I believe this will be helpful for solving some problems in the world.
What is Kazuma more interested in now than before?
アKazuma likes kombu now, though he didn’t like it when he was a child.
イKazuma’s uncle works for a Japanese restaurant in Hokkaido.
ウKazuma knows that kombu needs only a few years to grow.
エKazuma thinks that kombu can be kept for a long time because it absorbs more COz than trees.
オKazuma’s uncle doesn’t think kombu is eaten a lot in other countries.
To Kazuma,
Thank you very much for your wonderful speech. I did not know about the special power of kombu. I like kombu, so I want to eat your kombu dishes in the future. I also think it is a good idea to use the Internet to all over the world. I hope they will be interested in your dishes and kombu will be popular around the world.
